Hi and thanks for visiting my website. I'm Jan Kusiak, a Melbourne based, enthusiastic traveller.

I was a keen hobby photographer in my teens but as career and family took centre stage, making pictures became secondary. Nothing more than a recording of events and milestones.

Now - with work behind me and adult children who've long flown the nest - I can indulge my passion for travel and combine it with a life-long fascination with capturing images.

Probably my biggest photographic influence was Life magazine which - in it's heyday of the 1960's - brought the world to my doorstep. I grew up on a council estate in a small country town in the UK and I think I was the only person in our estate who subscribed to Life. I'd race up to the newsagent every time a new edition came out but had to wait patiently in front of the counter while all the staff flicked through the latest issue !

This as much as anything, made me see the power of photography and photojournalism for capturing a moment and a place in time. We all see things differently - I hope that the way I see things resonates with you and offers some ideas for travels of your own.

Life is short and in the words of Mark Twain:

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do
than by the ones you did do.

So, throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails.
Explore. Dream. Discover.
